STYLE REMARKS: the gupchi, toran and other wall hangings use a black centre with red and white borders. Borders are conventional; the use of multi borders and especially the kori goto-ghodi was traditionally a must for all three groups. Motifs sitted into square were popular during mid 70's to 1980's. CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: The envelope bag was traditional to Sindh and Baluchistan, from where Rabaris migrated. It is believed to be Iranian in origin. The Rabari version is stitched differently than most; the flap is stitched together at the base so as to elongate the bag. CULTURAL REMARKS: The gupchi was also used to carry dowry items.
