Description MATERIALS: Cotton and silk cloth, cotton threads and mirrors.
CONSTRUCTION: Machine and hand stitched, applique,embroidered; chain detached, chain cretan, double button hole, button hole filling, romanian, herringbone, interlaced and back stitches.
MOTIFS: Phulru, kungri, popti, makodiyun, tak bawaliyun, buttin, kori goto and pannvel.
COLOURS : Multicoloured on pink with white.
STYLE REMARKS: This is very old Rabari style. The filling of areas with Romanian stitch is unusual. Also note use of chain stitch on top of filled areas. with Romanian stitch is unusual. Also note use of chain stitch on top of filled areas. Very fine plain round chain stitching and curvilinear motifs were characteristics of the old style.
CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: This long jacket traces back to garments of medieval Rajasthan. It is specifically for a groom, to be worn with mashru chorani, a paniyo shawl and sword cover. Phulru motif represents necklace worn by groom.
CULTURAL REMARKS: The red applique at the top is specific to a goom's garment; it represents a cloth that is wrapped across the back and over the shoulders. Today, while Kachhis still use the adan, Dhebarias and Vagadias use a shorter jhuladi. Note that this retains the same cut of applique.
