Culture Rabari
Description MATERIALS: Cotton cloth.
CONSTRUCTION: Handblock printed, resist dyes.
MOTIFS: Poptiyo border, buto, vichhi, chakli and chokri.
COLOURS : black with maroon.
STYLE REMARKS: Copies the traditional wool bandhani of rabari women. Borders are derived from Rabari embroidery motifs. Note that field patterns is similar to that of Matheran. (MSC-16)
CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: Worn by young Rabari girls before they have to wear a woolen ludi.
CULTURAL REMARKS: Rabaris traditionally wear black as ritual mourning. Today women also wear doriya at home or for informal use.
